Book Club

Law Partners will be hosting a Book Club during the 2009-2010 school year. In the past it's been difficult to get all of us together one night a month, without our kids or spouses, at a time that is convienient to discuss the book for the month. Next year we will begin our discussions on the Google Group. It will start in September. If it looks like we want to meet and discuss the book together we will formulate a plan and go from there. Feel free to pick and choose the books. There is no requirement to read them all to participate (or even to complete the book! I know what it's like trying to fit everything in). Have fun reading!
September: Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
October: The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
November: Queen of the Big Time by Adrianna Trigiani
December: Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
January: Love Walked In by Maria de los Santos
February: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
March: All American Girl by Meg Cabot
April: Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen

Historian - Justina Selim

My name is Justina Selim. I am going to be the historian this year, which basically means I get to keep up this blog! I am also in charge of the dinner group. It's a new group for spouses only that is basically just meeting at a restaurant once a month without any kids! I can't wait! I think it will be a great way to get to know everyone better! :-> You can check out the schedule on the google group under pages. I will also be in charge of the hobby nights. Very exciting!

My husband is Taylor Selim and he will be in his third year of law school this year. We are both from Peoria, AZ. We met through mutual friends and we have been married for five years. We have a three year old boy named Aiden and a one year old girl named Eva. I am staying busy just being home with the kids. I occasionally do hair out of my house (when the kids will let me). For fun I like to go shopping, exercise, sew (learning how, I am horrible), eat out (that's why I'm in charge of the dinner group, haha), and blog (I blog here and here).

Secretary - Sara Oblad

I'm Sara Oblad-- the wife of Tyson (3L) and mother to Lawson (2 years old) and Makayla (born in February). I am originally from Idaho Falls, ID and my husband is from Taylorsville, UT. We met in a BYU ward in September 2004 and with a short dating period and 6 week engagement, we were married in December 2004. I graduated from BYU-Idaho in Floral Design Management. Shortly after that, I served a mission in the New York Rochester Mission giving tours at the Hill Cumorah Historical Sites for part of my time there. Tyson served his mission in the Texas McAllen Mission and loves the area there. He graduated from BYU in Political Science and was excited to be able to stay here for his Law degree. We have 2 beautiful children who keep us so busy. I like to do crafts and scrapbooking as well as blogging, exercising, and being with friends and family. I've loved Law Partners and look forward to meeting more people this year!

Heidi Bradford -Treasurer

My name is Heidi Bradford. I am from Meridian, Idaho (near Boise) and am married to Trent Bradford who grew up in Blanding, Utah (southeast corner of UT). We are approaching our second year of law school.

We met a few years ago in Virginia while I was student teaching in Washington, DC and Trent was working as a press intern for Senator Bob Bennett. Shortly thereafter I graduated from BYU with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. While Trent finished school at SUU in Cedar City, I taught 6th grade (two years at CVMS). Lily joined our family near the end of my second teaching year, whereupon Trent "got" to be a stay-at-home dad for a month+.

We love the outdoors: hiking, rappelling, climbing, frisbee, swimming, as well as racquetball and more traditional sports. We also love music: Trent plays alto saxophone, I play the piano, and the three of us sing. Lily is almost 15 months old and enjoys balls, balloons, bubbles and climbing.

I look forward to meeting and mingling with you!
Heidi

Vice President - Wendy Nichols

My name is Wendy Nichols. My husband, Brett, is a 2L. He was raised in Holladay, UT and went to Olympus High School. I was raised in Ogden and went to Ogden High School. I went to Weber State University and got a nursing degree. I served a medical mission to Ecuador, where I met my husband. We have been married for five years, nearly all of which Brett has been in school. He has an undergraduate degree in Psychology. He finished an MBA from the University of Utah in Spring 2008 and going back to Law School was not exactly in the plan! :) Brett is really enjoying Law school so it makes it worth it!

We have two beautiful daughters. Katie will be turning 3 years old this summer. She loves to sing and dance, read stories, play with cars, play ball and almost anything outdoors. Amanda was born on the first day of Law School. Amanda is just learning to crawl and is enjoying the freedom to be mobile. She loves her sister and it's Katie who can get her to laugh and laugh. I love being home with my girls and feel blessed to have them. They say the first year and the first semester of this program are the most difficult and I have to agree. We had a lot on our plate!

I work in North Salt Lake at an emergent care clinic. I love reading, scrap booking and card making, music and theater, sewing and stitching, and dating my husband. I enjoy being with my family, traveling, picnics, walks and bike rides, and Mexican food. I have loved being involved in Law Partners for the first year and am looking forward to more fun, more friends, and more opportunities to serve in the coming year.

Over these next couple of weeks I am going to be posting about the Law Partners Officers for the upcoming school year. I am going to start with the president, Samantha Anderson.

My name is Samantha Anderson and I will be the President of Law Partners in 2009-2010. My husband, John-David, is a 3L. He is currently working part time and doing an externship part time. We are both from Alaska and are missing the cool weather! We have two little boys, Julian who is 2 and Tennyson was born in March 2009. I love to sew, cook, read, make cards, garden... and pretty much anything that can get me outside. I have been participating in Law Partners since our first year and I have really enjoyed it. Welcome Class of 2012

I wanted to welcome the incoming class (and their spouses) of 2012 to the J. Reuben Clark Law School and to Law Partners! We are looking forward to an exciting year with Law Partners.
For some of our returning members, things will be changing a bit from previous years. We are going to decrease the number of activities held each month. Each semester will include the following: 1 Social, 2 Forums, 1 Hobby Night, Monthly Nights Out at a Local Restaurant, and weekly Children's Hour. We are hoping that with fewer acitivities to choose from each month more people will be able to participate.
We would also like to keep up with each Law Partner better and be able to get to know each of you a bit more. If you have a blog, please leave your blog address in the comments section and we will add it to our blog list. Don't forget to check out the Google Group for more information about the 2009-2010 activities and more details about the new changes.
We hope that the summer is going well for everyone!
